Washington Commanders wide receiver Jahan Dotson has been a popular pick as a breakout candidate in 2023. Several people have predicted the second-year wide receiver to be Washington’s breakout player this season.
Heck, even Dotson predicted a breakout campaign for himself in 2023.
Buy Commanders TicketsDotson looked in midseason form this preseason. There was the touchdown reception in the preseason opener against the Cleveland Browns, where he ran a “filthy” route to get open for the touchdown.
Then, in the second preseason game against the Ravens, Dotson caught five passes for over 70 yards in the first half. His connection with quarterback Sam Howell already appears to be a strong one.
So, while Dotson is a popular breakout pick, the Commanders still have Terry McLaurin, too. The good news, though, is Washington will throw the ball a lot more under new offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, meaning there will be plenty of targets for all of Washington’s wide receivers.
Could Dotson follow McLaurin’s path from last season and make his first Pro Bowl in 2023? Kevin Patra of NFL.com could see it happening, naming Dotson as Washington’s potential first-time Pro Bowler in 2023.
Commanders WR Terry McLaurin had to wait far too long to earn his first Pro Bowl nod. Dotson might not suffer the same fate. After a wobbly, injury-infested start to his rookie season, Dotson came on strong down the stretch, making 16 catches for 290 yards and two TDs in the season’s final four games. With vice-grip hands, Dotson could grow into a scoring machine after leading Washington with seven receiving TDs in just 12 games played last season. Dotson owns the natural ability to stack numbers, and with defenses focused on McLaurin, the second-year WR could feast.
