LOS ANGELES – Democrats consider California pivotal to the party's efforts to regain control of the U.S. House of Representatives in 2024, with a super PAC tied to former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi pledging Tuesday to spend $35 million on competitive congressional races in the state.
That's roughly triple what the group spent in the 2022 midterm campaigns in California, when Democrats underperformed in heavily blue states like California while fending off an expected Republican red wave in congressional races across the nation.
"Democrats can't retake the House without winning seats back in California," said David Wasserman, a congressional forecaster for the nonpartisan Cook Political Report.
