After a wet and rainy June, many people are hoping for the summer weather to finally arrive onto Irish shores and Met Éireann has given us all hope on that front.
It looks like we could be in for some good weather very soon as Met Eireann’s long-range forecast has predicted an “Azores High” moving up towards Ireland.
The “Azores High” is an area of high pressure that develops over a subtropical region in the Atlantic Ocean. It contains tropical warm air and could bring summer heatwaves and higher temperatures as it moves over Ireland.

While low pressure is still expected to dominate the country this week with plenty of showers, we could see a change to Ireland's weather by the end of the week.
The national forecaster said high pressure from the Azores may edge up for a time on Thursday into Friday bringing drier conditions on those days.
However, there is hope for much better weather in the first week of July.
Weather models show the Azores High will extend an influence up over Ireland from next Monday, July 4, bringing settled weather.
It will approach from the southwest, most affecting counties in that part of the country such as Kerry and Cork.
Conditions will be drier than normal and temperatures are expected to be close to the seasonal average for early July.
Here is Met Eireann’s long-range forecast for the next 14 days:
Week 1: Monday June 27 - Sunday July 3
Low pressure is expected to dominate Ireland, for a time anyway, bringing unstable air down from the north. High pressure near the Azores may edge up for a time around Thursday into Friday bringing drier conditions.
Temperatures over the period are expected to average out around a degree below average for most areas and overall it is expected to be wetter than normal.
Some heavy or thundery rain can be expected at times early in the period with the risk of spot flooding. Marine wind warnings are likely to be in operation early in the period too.
Week 2: Monday July 4 - Sunday July 10
It looks more settled for this week with drier than normal conditions overall. It looks like the Azores high will extend an influence up over Ireland from the southwest. Temperatures are expected to be close to the seasonal average for early July.
