Costs for fireworks event organisers 'rise by 30 per cent' in Bristol as cost of living crisis hits

An organiser of a popular Bonfire Night event in Bristol has said the cost of fireworks has risen by almost a third. The news comes as multiple events have been called off around the country due to the cost of living crisis.

Local authorities across the UK have been hit hard by the rising cost of energy bills and have been forced to call off displays and bonfires. Leeds County Council has called off six major events this year while a popular bonfire night in East Sussex has been crowdfunded to cover the costs.

The majority of Bristol's Bonfire Night events are privately run and the usual big celebrations are carrying on as planned this year. However, Avon Valley Adventure and Wildlife Park in Keynsham - which hosts one of the biggest annual events in the area - has said the price of the fireworks had increased by almost a third for this year's event.
