Costco sells out of Prime in MINUTES as customers queue round store

Wholesaler Costco sold out of Prime within minutes as customers queued to get their hands on the sought-after drink.

Kids are still going crazy for the hydration drink, marketed by YouTubers KSI and Logan Paul, which means parents are keen to get their hands on some - especially when it's being sold at a reduced price.

Asda has been selling the flavours for £2 a bottle, and more recently Aldi and Spar stores have been getting limited stock, but it's still been like gold dust to get hold of.

So it's no surprise that customers were out in force to grab crates of the stuff at Costco today, Friday.

We revealed yesterday that the American-owned membership-only wholesaler would be stocking the product and letting members buy up to two crates each, with 12 bottles in each crate.

With one crate costing £18.58, it means each drink costs £1.55 - 22% less than at Asda and a damn sight cheaper than the £10 plus price tag some retailers have been setting.

Only the Ice Pop flavour was available and customers formed a separate queue at the back of Costco's Trafford Park store to wait for staff - who stayed behind a metal barrier - to unload it.

With just one pallet to share out, and everyone in the queue buying the maximum two crates, the place was sold out within 15 minutes. It was a similar story in Oldham's Costco, where its pallet of 133 crates was gone in eight minutes.

It seems not everyone was there to buy it for their own children or families though.

"I don't need it," said one woman in the Trafford queue. "I'm just buying it to sell." And it's expected that, due to the demand, much of the stock will be sold on at a higher price.

Costco staff have not been allowed to buy any of the bottles. While Trafford said it was unsure whether more stock would arrive, Oldham said it's 'hoping to get more later today or tomorrow'.

Asda is continuing to get regular deliveries of the drink and it's likely that Aldi, where photos have emerged of Prime stock in warehouses, will soon be selling more of the bottles in stores.

Spar says its first lot of stock has been flying out, with more stores expecting deliveries shortly.

A Spar spokesperson said: “Spar is among the first to stock the Prime Hydration Energy Drink and it is currently available at participating Spar stores in England, Scotland and Wales with more locations looking to make the product obtainable over the coming weeks.”

The Prime Tracker UK app is one way that shoppers are finding out about stock in their area. They shared news of the Costco stock on their Twitter account on Thursday. It costs 89p to download on the App Store and is coming to android in the next few days.
