Cost of living crisis: How to work out the cost of running your appliances, and how much it costs to work from home

With energy bills soaring and the colder months looming, we're all searching for the best ways to claw back some cash when it comes to using various appliances in our homes. The most costly appliance is said to be a condenser tumble dryer, which will cost you over £140 to run every year on average.

If you're wondering how you could work out the amount of money each of your appliances cost to run, there is a way of knowing. There's a calculation which allows you to calculate the amount of energy used by each appliance, as well as how much it will cost you to run them.

To work out how much energy is used by each appliance, multiply the power rating in kW by the hours the appliance is used per day, and you will get the answer in kWh. You can then use this figure to work out the cost of running each appliance, by multiplying the answer to the last equation by the unit cost.
