Cost of living crisis forces people to swap shampoo for washing-up liquid

A charity has revealed that some households have so little money left after paying their bills that they are forced to wash their hair with washing up liquid.

Freedom4Girls said that some are also struggling to afford being able to clean their clothes as the cost of living continues to rise. Founder Tina Leslie called the situation “absolutely heartbreaking” as the Leeds-based charity, which aims to tackle period poverty, found that others have been unable to afford period or hygiene products.

“Nobody has got any money left after paying the rent and bills,” Tina told The Mirror . “It’s horrific.”
