Cost of living calculator shows how much your bills and tax will rise this year

The cost of living crisis is hitting Brits with soaring energy costs and inflation, but how much more will you have to pay?

Many Brits today will be trying to crunch the numbers to see what the crisis will cost your households.

In case you hadn't heard, the energy cap - the maximum amount Brits can be charged for energy - will rise by £693, making the typical energy bill an eye-watering 54 percent more expensive.

Shortly after that, the Bank of England announced interest rates would rise, the second time in three months.

All in all it's a more expensive time to be living in the UK, so we've put together a cost of living calculator that reveals how much more you'll pay on bills and tax from April.

Try out this calculator to see how the cost of living crisis will hit your bank account.

The energy cap rise announcement was made earlier today by the Office of Gas and Electricity Markets (Ofgem).

Ofgem reported that the new energy cap means the typical energy bill will rise by 54 percent.

The regulator said 22 million customers are set to be hit by the energy price increase.

The price hike will see an even higher increase of £708 for customers using prepayment for energy bills, meaning a rise from £1,309 to £2,017.

People paying direct debit will pay an extra £693 a year - from £1,277 to £1,971.

The two major announcements come in the wake of higher inflation, plus higher National Insurance rates come April.
