Cosmetics and collaborations will be ‘authentic to what Modern Warfare is,’ say CoD devs

After obsessing over chasing trends for years now, leading to collaborations with the likes of Nicki Minaj and other out-of-place people and entities, Infinity Ward wants to ground its cosmetics and collabs in Modern Warfare 4.

As per its X account, Infinity Ward says, “Every aspect of Modern Warfare 4 is anchored in the game’s narrative,” including skins. “Every feature, every decision needs to feel authentic to what Modern Warfare is, and that includes cosmetics and collabs,” it wrote.

Infinity Ward will keep things grounded and thematically consistent throughout the game’s lifespan. “We’re committed to keeping it grounded and transparent, and we want to hear from you on what you’d like to see in our game,” it explained.

Call of Duty hasn’t kept within its military theme for many years now, with things significantly ramping up with the rise of Fortnite and its ever-wilder collaborations. This led to people like Nicki Minaj running around with laser beams, completely shattering any semblance of a military shooter that still remained in the series. With Black Ops then picking up pace in its singleplayer side, too, we’ve come to know Call of Duty as a fantasy rather than a realistic military franchise.

But as Battlefield 6 carved out a good portion of CoD‘s market share for itself last year, itself committing to keeping skins and cosmetics realistic and grounded, it’s only expected to see Activision do the same. We’ll see how true this turns out to be, though, as there wouldn’t be any wild collaborations in the series if people weren’t buying them. They’re clearly popular enough to be included, so the company could possibly miss out on significant revenue if it omits these collabs entirely.

I could be wrong, though, so I guess patience is the only answer.
