Coronation Street viewers spotted clues about Stephen Reid and his secret money problems, after a twist in the latest episode.
Picking up on his reaction to some news about his mother Audrey Roberts' will plans, a later discovery left fans convinced they knew what he was up to - and they now fear he could kill his mum in a shocking cover-up.
Since his return, viewers have accused the character of trying to steal his mother's money - encouraging her to put him in charge of the trust funds she planned to set up for her loved ones.
Wanting ownership of everything she has after her recent suicide attempt, Stephen has seemed keen to get his hands on her money - while acting as though he is well off.
Ahead of upcoming scenes shedding more light on his money woes and possible scams, the latest episode saw the character acting oddly.
He didn't seem happy when Audrey claimed Stephen had asked to be kept out of the will where money was concerned as he "did not need it".
Then, he seemed panicked about something, more so when he realised his blazer had ripped.
It's then that a twist aired, as Stephen was seen purchasing a new shirt, suit and tie from a charity shop.
He paid £20 for the items revealing this was all he had, before showing the cashier his empty wallet.
Later, as nephew David Platt mocked his outfit, he claimed he bought a flashy new suit to "take a risk" adding: "What have I got to lose?"
Little did his family know that he clearly is struggling with money, and viewers are now convinced they know what he is up to.
Taking to Twitter, fans believe Stephen's debt is so huge that he might go to a horrifying extent to steal Audrey's money.
After she revealed her recent suicide attempt to her loved ones, fans questioned if Stephen might kill his own mum and make it look as though she has taken her own life.
One viewer tweeted: "Stephen the snake is going to kill Aud by poisoning her and make it look like she’s taken another overdose."
Another said: "I thought the same," as a third tweeted: "Stephen buying a burner suit before he kills Audrey."
A fourth fan commented: "Stephens going to kill Audrey before she gets a chance to make a new will! Make it look like another overdose."
