Coronation Street’s Sally Metcalfe has not had an easy few weeks on the soap, as she and Tim cope with his serious health diagnosis, but audiences could now see the Weatherfield veteran briefly exits the soap as actress Sally Dynevor competes in ITV's Dancing on Ice.
Home life has become tense at No. 4, after husband Tim’s (Joe Duttine) mother Elaine (Paula Wilcox) moved in with the couple to help care for him in the wake of his triple bypass surgery.
Sally (Sally Dynevor) has crossed swords with her mother-in-law and is now set to become embroiled in more drama with Abi over her cheating next week, leading to her announcing an exit from the cobbles to stay with her younger sister Gina.
In upcoming scenes from the ITV soap, Abi Webster admits to Sally that she has cheated on her husband Kevin with Imran Habeeb.
The drama begins on Monday, February 21, as Imran and Toyah celebrate their engagement in the bistro - only for the romantic mood to be broken by the arrival of Sally, Abi and Sean.
Sally finds Abi outside the bistro and goes to comfort her, as she’s clearly upset, only for Abi to admit that she slept with someone else behind Kevin’s back after keeping the infidelity under wraps for months.
But in scenes on Wednesday, February 23, a sad and simple mistake involving the camper van leaves Kevin reeling in shock as he learns of the betrayal.
When Abi takes a call from Sally - who listened to her message while at the factory - she fails to realise that her phone is connected to the Bluetooth speaker in the van.
This allows Kevin to eavesdrop and hear the entire conversation, as Abi begs Sally not to tell Kevin about her infidelity, only for Sally to refuse to make any promises.
Later on, Sally finds Abi in Victoria Garden and explains that she’s off to stay with Gina - and could pave the way for real life Sally Dynevor to briefly exit the soap for her stint on Dancing on Ice.
Sally, who first debuted on the ITV soap in January 1986, admitted she is keen to show another side of herself to fans while competing in the celebrity ice skating competition on ITV.
She said: “I’ve been in Corrie for 35 years and I’ve loved every minute of it but to be given an opportunity to do something that’s different from Coronation Street is wonderful and I’m really looking forward to it.”
The Weatherfield stalwart will be taking to the ice again on Sunday night beside her legendary skate partner Matt Evers.
The soap veteran has credited her husband Tim Dynevor and their children for giving her the courage to step out of her comfort zone on Dancing on Ice.
Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7:30pm and 8:30pm on ITV.
