Coronation Street’s Ryan and Debbie are in hot water next week after their plan to fix money woes backfires on the ITV soap.
Debbie (Sue Devaney) has been struggling following an incident in one of her hotels that saw Ed electrocuted in a horror accident, which shed light on Ray’s dodgy shortcuts.
Debbie realised she had failed to ensure that the wiring was safe following her takeover and when new money worries surfaced through her accountant, she confided in Ryan (Ryan Prescott).
Debbie was drowning her sorrows behind the bar when she confided in him and offered him a proposition, sharing her plans to stage a break in in order to claim money back on the insurance.
ITV spoilers have now revealed that Ryan is arrested on the soap next week, as the pair’s plan goes spectacularly awry.
The drama begins on Monday, August 1, when Debbie rolls the dice and instructs Ryan on staging a break-in so she can make a claim on the insurance.
But later when Debbie has second thoughts and tells Ryan the robbery is off, he is left furious.
With ‘Casino Night’ underway, Ryan tells Debbie that he’s going to fuse the electrics and grab the cash from the safe – suddenly plunging the bistro into darkness on the big night.
Debbie reluctantly helps with Ryan’s plan and as the Bistro customers file into the Rovers, Ryan stuffs the cash in his gym bag.
But, Leanne arrives in the middle of his scheme, forcing Ryan to hide while she flicks the switch and the lights come back on.
Ryan, clutching his bag of stolen cash, comes out from his hiding place and makes out he’s just arrived.
Leanne heads back to the Rovers to tell the customers that ‘Casino Night’ is back on.
Ryan assures Debbie that the cash is stashed in his bedroom, leaving Leanne horrified in later scenes when she discovers the money's all gone as police are called to the scene.
Later in the middle of the week on Wednesday, Ronnie demands the truth from Debbie.
Craig fiercely questions Debbie, Leanne and Nick about the break-in before he calls in to the Rovers and questions Ryan.
Ed reveals that the CCTV has a back-up circuit and won’t have been affected by the power cut.
Leanne, Nick, Debbie and Ronnie watch as Craig presses play on the CCTV and they all see that Ryan is the perpetrator.
Ryan is immediately arrested on suspicion of theft and in later scenes, Ronnie accuses Debbie of orchestrating an insurance scam.
Debbie denies it, but will Ronnie believe her lies?
Ryan undergoes a police interview and calls Debbie from the police station, threatening to drop her in it as he realises he’s lost everything.
At the end of the week, Nick and Ryan see each other in the street, when he tells him he has 24 hours to return the cash or he’ll make sure the police throw the book at him.
But Debbie has a plan and Ryan assures her that he told the police that he was coerced into the robbery by some dodgy blokes who threatened to kill him.
