Nina Lucas and Roy Cropper are feared dead in a horrifying New Year's tragedy on Coronation Street.
Roy has been incredibly supportive of his niece since the harrowing experiences she faced at the hand of evil Corey but there is more tragedy in store for the family in the coming weeks as a river accident leaves both feared dead. In the New Year, Roy arranges to meet Nina, Brian and Asha at a meeting in the woods after dropping Evelyn off.
However, the meeting is cancelled - but Brian and Nina realise they have no way of letting Roy know.
Roy heads to the woods and accidentally drops his thermos in the river. When Nina, Brian and Asha eventually arrive to look for Roy, they spot his car and head towards the river to try and find him and see what's going on.
There are horrified to find his thermos in the water and Nina quickly makes her way down to the river bank to check for any sign of him. As she heads to the edge of the river, she slips and bangs her head.
She rolls into the river, as Asha and Brian are left in sheer panic.
Brian manages to get into the water and pulls Nina's limp body out, and they call an ambulance. Will Nina be ok and where has Roy got to? Will both of them be ok or is there a New Year tragedy in store?
There were emotional scenes back in 2021 when Roy bid farewell to Nina, leaving fans in tears.
Speaking to his niece, there wasn't a dry eye in the house as he said: "One day I hope you’ll find it in you heart to forgive me. This is my only hope of peace. I must go away and atone. As you know I have gifted you my estate so you will always have a roof over your head and money coming in and a place to call your own in this kind and caring community. Now please."
Nina then moved to unlock the door, but before she did, she had one last thing to say.
"You know when I was beaten up it was you that brought me back," she shared, "It was your voice I could hear as I drifted in and out of consciousness. My dad left me because he had no choice.
"Please don’t do this to me Roy. You’re the one person in the whole world that I trust and I love you."
As she spoke directly to him, she said: "You promised me you’d always look after me. Roy." He left for South Africa, but thankfully made his return later to take up his usual position behind the counter at Roy's Rolls.
