Coronation Street's Summer Spellman will be celebrating her 18th birthday on the ITV soap next week, but it won't be all fun and games for the teen.
New ITV spoilers reveal that during a slap-up lunch at Speed Daal to celebrate her special day, Billy Mayhew hands Summer (Harriet Bibby) a letter which her dad asked him to give to her on her 18th birthday.
Summer admits to her guardian Billy (Daniel Brocklebank) that she’s scared of opening the letter from her adoptive father Drew.
Billy goes on to reveal that the diabetic nurse had called to confirm she is eligible for a glucose monitor, but Summer’s upset that Billy and her boyfriend Aaron Sandford went behind her back.
After having a row with mechanic Aaron, Summer reads her dad’s letter. Will it change her outlook on things? Or will it leave her more upset?
It comes after Summer discovered Aaron's own heartbreaking secret last week when she found him nursing a fat lip.
But Summer was keeping a secret of her own and this week she attends her appointment with the diabetic nurse, who suggests that a flash monitor might be helpful, which Aaron agrees with.
According to NHS England, a flash monitor uses a sensor that is placed on the back of the upper arm and worn externally by the user, allowing glucose information to be monitored using a mobile app.
Later this week, Summer lies to Billy as she says that she doesn't qualify for a flash monitor, but Aaron isn't having any of it.
Instead, he urges Billy to call the hospital to double check what Summer has said.
The next day, Billy and Summer head to the Bistro for Gemma and Paul's birthday celebrations. However, Summer is put off when she notices Aaron staring her.
He assures Summer that he wasn't checking up on her and she resolves to make it up to Aaron for ruining their holiday together when she collapsed.
Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV and ITV Hub.
