Coronation Street legend Simon Gregson caused a scene at a co-star’s leaving do by stripping partially naked and dancing on top of nightclub furniture – drawing the attention of unimpressed bouncers.
The 47-year-old soap actor – who has played Steve McDonald in the long-running ITV soap since 1989 – was one of many cast members joining 28-year-old Alexandra Mardell’s leaving do.
The actor and the younger actress play on-screen father and daughter – with Alexandra quitting the soap this year after first appearing on screen as Emma Brooker in 2018.
But it seems Simon was the one who ended up being the centre of attention when Corrie cast members went out in Manchester back in February to give Alexandra a send off.
Footage that has been shared by The Sun on Sunday shows Simon looking slightly worse for wear while inside a nightclub.
Music pulsates across the packed club floor while a camera captures the soap star standing topless on top of a table.
Another man, reported to be a bouncer, tries in vain to coax the Corrie star down – who initially resists.
Loud music and the sound of thrill-seeking clubbers make the audio difficult to decipher, however it is suggested that Simon shouted “f**k you” at the bouncer.
Footage also shows the bouncer grabbing at Simon’s naked arm as he tries to pull him down to ground level, while the actor shrugs him off.
Meanwhile, an eyewitness told The Sun that Simon had simply got “carried away” with the evening’s celebrations, claiming: “He had obviously had a good night and was out with a lot of the Corrie cast and crew.
“But towards the end of the night Simon obviously thought it was a good idea to jump up for a topless dance. He was on a piece of furniture using it as a type of makeshift stage.
“The crowd were laughing and cheering, with a lot of people egging him on, and most people there saw the funny side. But some clubbers were shouting abuse at him as well, which was unnecessary.”
Once Simon agreed to get down he was ordered by venue staff to put his clothes back on.
He was then reportedly asked to leave the venue – and the actor is said to have left without a fuss.
The scenes are said to have taken place at Albert’s Schloss bar in Manchester’s Deansgate area back on 18 February.
The Mirror has contacted representatives of the ITV soap actor for comment.
Meanwhile, Alexandra took to social media following the lively night out to thank her co-stars for supporting her and giving her a good send off.
She wrote via Instagram : “Face ache from smiling and hardly any photos are a sign of a fab night! Can we do it again?
“Huge hugs to everyone who came to say ta-ra for now! Had the best night with you all! Big big love.”
Alexandra’s final scenes as Emma are expected to air on Coronation Street in the coming week.
