Corrie's Sally Ann Matthews gives 'massive shout-out' to 'forgotten' co-star over chilling acid attack scenes

Coronation Street star Sally Ann Matthews has praised her co-stars after viewers called for the soap to 'sweep all the awards' for terrifying acid attack scenes. Sally, who plays Weatherfield icon Jenny Connor, took to Twitter to applaud Charlotte Jordan, who plays her stepdaughter Daisy Midgeley, Ryan Prescott who plays DJ Ryan Connor, and Andrew Still who plays Justin Rutherford.

Daisy and Ryan had viewers in tears after Ryan was hit with acid hurled in Daisy's direction by Justin as they locked up the Rovers Return to get to her wedding. Stalker Justin was lurking in the shadows with a glass of acid and threw it at the bride, but Ryan stepped in the way.

As Justin ran away, a distraught Daisy dialled 999 and asked for help as Ryan was screaming and writhing in agony. After putting him in the shower in cold water and cutting the shirt off his back, Daisy wept at the hospital as she confided in her stepmum Jenny and fiance Daniel Osbourne.

"It wasn't meant for him it was meant or me. It's my fault. I moved this to the next level," cried Daisy about her stalking ordeal, which began when she met Justin in a hospital waiting room and was kind to him. "There was nothing you could have done at all, nothing," said Jenny firmly.

As Daisy waited for news on Ryan, she was horrified to spot Justin waiting in his car outside the hospital. She kept him talking until the police swooped and arrested him for GBH.

Explaining why he had targeted her with acid he said chillingly: "If you looked different the shallow people wouldn't want to be with you. Just me."

Sally Ann tweeted: "It’s not even biased to say my baby ChaCha was phenomenal tonight and Ryan broke my heart x". She then added 'massive shout-out' to Andrew, who arrived on our screens as creepy Justin in December: "Massive shout-out too to Andrew Still for his terrifying portrayal of Justin. Brilliant work x"

@MartinFrench2 exclaimed: "Bloody hell I forgot! You’re right of course." @ConversationStr tweeted: "He is perfect - captures Justin’s various moods so well, from sweet, to delusional, to menacing, to cowardly, and terrifying!"

@MissFee85 praised: "He was brilliant and it can’t of been an easy role for him to play! Bit of a dish is Andrew." And @megsanne88 said: "Andrew was amazing….Scary and yet at one point I started to feel sorry for him! THAT is good acting!"

@alanlambodublin commented: "100% the scene in the car where he explained why he did it was so sincere. He wasn't a pantomime villain and that made him scarier." @JamesErie74 wrote: "He is disturbingly excellent. Superb stuff this week. Congratulations to you all in front and behind the camera. What a #Corrie week!"

Thanking people for their praise Andrew took to Twitter to say: "Thank you to all the people reaching out over last nights @itvcorrie. It was a tough watch but glad to see that the hard work from the cast & crew paid off onscreen. A massive congratulations to the whole team who put it all together."
