Corrie's Paula Wilcox still gets recognised 45 years after Man About The House

Coronation Street star Paula Wilcox looked like she barely aged half a decade after her role on Man About The House.

Paula has been playing Elaine Jones on the ITV soap since 2020 but became well known for her role as Chrissy Plummer in the 70s series.

Man About The House also starred Richard O'Sullivan and Sally Thomsett.

Despite the 45 years that has passed, the actress still gets recognised for her breakout role. She was only 24 when she joined the sitcom.

She explained to Woman's Weekly magazine: "I definitely still get recognised from Man About the House."

"I get taxi drivers saying they used to be in love with me, and I say, 'What do you mean, used to be?'"

Paula added: "It's very flattering after all this time. It was a lovely programme and it's nice to be recognised for something that was dear to people's hearts.

"It's difficult to believe it nowadays, but it was quite cheeky for its time.

"Two young girls sharing a flat with a man was quite titillating and both the girls could be flirty.

"There was something for everybody and lots of generations watched it."

Paula's character Elaine made her first appearance on the cobbles of Corrie in mid-2020.

She was introduced as the ex-wife of Geoff Metcalfe (played by Ian Bartholomew), who is known for abusing his current wife Yasmeen (Shelley King).

She previously appeared on Coronation Street in 1969 as Janice Langton. She took on the role for five episodes

Paula is also known for her roles in The Lovers, The Liver Birds, Miss Jones and Son, Fiddlers Three, The Queen's Nose and more.

She previously talked about returning to Corrie after 51 long years.

Paula said at the time: "She is like the cavalry coming in to save Yasmeen.

"The longing to see her son Tim, the longing to have some sort of closure and justice in her life, it’s a mixture of all sorts of emotions.”

"...Fifty years ago no one would have talked about this issue," she said of coming in to save Yasmeen from her abusive ex-husband.

"Over the years it’s become more and more possible to discuss it.”
