Coronation Street star Chris Gascoyne, known for playing Peter Barlow on the iconic ITV show over the last 23 years, has landed a huge job away from the soap.
The actor, who made his debut as Peter in the show's 40th anniversary, was showered with praise and support from his fans after The Alban Arena in Saint Albans announced the line-up for one of this year’s pantos.
Announcing the exciting news, the theatre confirmed the news that Gascoyne would be starring as Captain Hook later this year.

The theatre's social media account wrote: "Exciting panto news. The Alban Arena are delighted to announce Coronation Street Legend Chris Gascoyne will star as Captain Hook in The All New Adventures of Peter Pan this pantomime season!
"Chris Gascoyne is famous for his role as Peter Barlow in Britain’s top soap, Coronation Street (ITV) in which he has led numerous high-profile storylines to great acclaim.
"This promises to be our most spectacular pantomime yet with stunning sets, dazzling costumes, and a star-studded cast, this is a must-see show for the whole family.
“Don't miss your chance to experience the wonder and excitement of Neverland once more in Paul Hendy's pantomime sequel!"
Fans flocked to the comment section to react to the news and share their excitement about the star joining the cast.
One fan wrote: "Nah Corrie are too funny saying that Peter has been on a boat for three months when he’s playing a literal pirate."
