Coronation Street icon Bill Roache has teased a possible romantic storyline on the ITV soap as his character Ken Barlow’s ex Wendy Crozier returns to the cobbles.
The character was last seen in 2012 and had been in a relationship with the Weatherfield legend when she worked as a council source for Ken when he was a journalist.
Wendy’s character, played by Roberta Kerr, is now set to cross paths with her former flame, Bill confirmed during an interview on Loose Women.
The 90-year-old soap veteran told Denise Welch during an interview that he recently received the new storylines in a batch of seven scripts.
Denise had asked: “Do you think there’s still time and you still have a desire for Ken Barlow to find a great love again?”
Bill teased: “I’ve got two ex-girlfriends, Rula Lenska - who plays Claudia Colby - and Wendy Crozier, and they’ll be back in a few weeks.”
He continued: “It’s lovely to go over all that. The great thing about Coronation Street is not many things have been going for 60 years so you can just draw on its own history.”
Speaking to the former Corrie star, he added: “You know, you remember what it was like. It can draw on itself and it's a happy group.”
Denise agreed, adding: “Nobody does comedy and drama in equal measures like Coronation Street.
“The mixture of the older and younger cast members working together and the humour used to have me crying laughing.”
The full details of Wendy’s returning storyline are still a mystery, but a source recently told The Sun: “Wendy was run out of the cobbles by Ken ten years ago after she tried to rekindle their affair and she’s stayed away.
“But this summer she will make a comeback as a social worker involved with another street resident and end up bumping into her old flame.
“Has Wendy changed or will she want to get her claws back into Ken?”
Ken and Wendy began an affair on the soap, which ultimately led to his first divorce from Deirdre.
But the relationship between Ken and Wendy didn't last very long, and when Ken later lost his job at the newspaper, Wendy replaced him as editor.
Ken fell into a depression that led to the realisation that he should have never left Deirdre.
Ken later left Wendy, and he and Deidre would eventually reconcile and remarry in 2005.
Wendy was last seen on Coronation Street in 2012 after the death of her husband Christos Papadopoulos, when she once again tried to rekindle the romance with Ken.
But he was happily married to Deirdre, prompting Wendy to get Ken drunk and let him crash on her sofa only to later tell Deirdre they had slept together.
This breach of trust led to Ken cutting Wendy out of his life completely, but have Ken's feelings changed nearly 10 years later now that he's a widower?
