Corrie fans 'work out' the truth of Stu's horror past after Craig's detective clue

Coronation Street fans believe they could have figured out what happened to Stu Carpenter before he arrived on the cobbles, after his past was exposed to Yasmeen Nazir.

Currently behind bars after breaching the peace, Stu is desperately trying to plead his case to Yasmeen after she learned he had spent 27 years in prison for the murder of a woman after he had been having an affair.

Yasmeen was herself a victim of abuse and was tormented by ex-husband Geoff Metcalfe (Ian Bartholomew) so didn't want to hear Stu's excuses as he tried to protest his innocence.

Yet, Yasmeen's grandson Zeedan (Qasim Akhtar) has started to investigate Stu and now realises he may be telling the truth.

In Monday’s instalment of the ITV soap, Zeedan receives a visit from Craig Tinker ( Colson Smith ) after he asked him to dig up information on the case.

Zeedan learns from Craig that the detective Stu accused of persecution took early retirement for a spurious reason – after having an affair – and Zeedan asks if he can dig deeper.

Coronation Street fans took to Twitter to speculate that the detective’s affair and Stu’s affair could be linked.

One fan posted: “OOOOOoooooh, so Stu was having an affair with the same girl as Inspector Lennox. Lennox kills the girl and blame Stu…”

A second wrote: “Was he having an affair with the women who got killed.”

A third said: “Anyone else think that it was Detective Lennox who had an affair with Charlie too and killed her, not Stu?

“Stu obviously falsely accused of murder but don't worry cause Craig will reopen the case and get it sorted,” another fan posted.

This comes after Coronation Street fans believe they worked out what could be coming for Stu on the ITV soap after he was arrested during Wednesday’s episode in dramatic scenes.

When Stu arrived at Yasmeen’s house in scenes that aired on Wednesday evening, she was visibly distressed and started to panic when he said he would not leave until she heard him out.

Despite the heartfelt plea, Yasmeen was unmoved and remained adamant Stu must be guilty of the crime – she even compared him to her traumatic past caused by Geoff.

As Craig then arrested Stu, a watch was seen falling out of Stu’s pocket, unbeknownst to him. Once Stu had been whisked away to the police station, Yasmeen told Zeedan to throw the watch – leaving many fans predicting it could hold the clue to Stu’s future.
