Corrie fans spot string of epic court blunders as Ryan dodges jail in shock sentencing

Coronation Street’s Ryan Connor was sentenced in court on Wednesday’s instalment of the ITV soap, after his involvement in the robbery at the bistro.

Connor (Ryan Prescott)had briefly believed he could get away with the robbery, only to be dramatically rumbled when he committed the crime last week on the cobbles.

The incident saw Ryan fiddle with the electricity in the restaurant so he could steal money from the safe, after pressure from cash-strapped Debbie (Sue Devaney).

The pair agreed to share the money that would come from the compensation claim so Debbie could get back on her feet and Ryan could leave the cobbles and return to Ibiza.

But when Ed (Trevor Michael Georges) confirmed the CCTV had not been hooked up to the power and so had caught the entire robbery, Craig ( Colson Smith ) arrested Ryan for theft after he was seen on the camera footage.

Debbie's partner Ronnie (Vinta Morgan) guessed that she had given Ryan the code to the safe, and she admitted her involvement, leaving him furious as he ended their relationship.

Ryan was released on bail and this week during Wednesday’s episode he was seen suited and booted for the sentencing in court.

However, as Ryan stepped into the courtroom just a week after the crime, many soap fans were left in disbelief over the speed at which the justice system in Walford works.

Taking to Twitter, one fan joked: “Ryan is up at court already? Hahaha,” as another wrote: “Ryan's sentencing already ...only got found out last week !. Pity the rest of the country's courts weren't this quick.”

In the courtroom, the judge then asked Ryan how he plead, as he indicated a not guilty plea and she then proceeded with her sentencing.

In a shock move, Ryan was only given community service for the crime, leaving soap fans in hysterics at the lenient sentence, which many saw as a second gaffe in the courtroom scenes.

“Did the judge actually buy Ryan's story?" (ITV)

One tweeted: “Ryan gets community services, even though the money that he admitted stealing is still missing..”

A second commented: “Did the judge actually buy Ryan's story of being forced to rob the safe by masked men? Or was she laughing so hard she just thought: "This daft b***** is no danger to society".”

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV.
