Coronation Street fans slammed a police blunder on Monday evening, as heartbreak hit the cobbles when a body was discovered.
Kelly Neelan was left utterly devastated as her father's dead body was finally found after three years.
Loan shark Rick, played by Greg Wood, terrorised the residents of Weatherfield during his short stint on the cobbles back in 2019.
Among those tormented by Rick was Gary, who he attempted to kill by luring him out to the woodland and claiming that he had Sarah, who was his girlfriend at the time.
Gary had discovered a grave, which Rick had dug in a plan to bury him after killing him.
After a furious fight, Gary managed to come out on top and it later emerged that he had killed Rick.
The loan shark went 'missing' and Gary took over the loan shark business, with Rick's daughter Kelly and wife Laura believing that he was on the run from the police.
But Laura has since declared that she'll take the blame for the murder of her husband Rick so that his real killer Gary can continue to care for Kelly.
But on the ITV soap on Monday, Kelly was left horrified when a body was discovered at the construction site, only for DS Beckett to dash Kelly’s last hopes it could be someone else, when he confirmed they had found Rick's body.
The police officer told Kelly of her mum Laura: “Your mother admitted and was charged with his murder shortly after. Her providing us with the whereabouts on top of her confession effectively concludes the case. I’m sorry for your loss.”
But as the police officer offered Kelly trauma care, many ITV viewers took to Twitter to question the decision to close the case without any forensic work on the body.
One asked: “err DNA?” as another tweeted: “Corrie are they really going to close the case on Rick's death without further forensics??”
A third wrote: “Does DNA not exist in the world of Corrie.”
Another posted: “The police haven't even checked Gary's DNA on Rick's body,” as a fellow viewer mused: “Concludes the case. You've only just found the body… Work fast.”
Many also wrote of their sympathy for Kelly, who was in tears after the news, saying of her mum: “I thought this was a joke. I thought she was just winding us up or something.”
One ITV viewer wrote: “I feel sorry for poor Kelly. I just wanna hug her.”
Another said: “Poor Kelly, lost her dad and gonna lose her mum!”
