Corrie fans double take as Holby City star appears on Cobbles amid serial killer storyline

Coronation Street fans were left doing a double take tonight as they noticed a Hollyoaks and Holby City star pop up on the Cobbles.

Serial killer Stephen Reid has been busy trying to nail a new deal for the factory, and after they finally secured an order, businessman Owen and his business partner visited the street to look at the factory's work and sign another deal.

As it all went to plan - despite Stephen receiving a letter mid-way through which accused him of murdering Rufus - the group headed over to the Rovers to grab a drink together and toast to their new partnership.

Owen was one of the business owners working with Stephen (ITV)

As Owen stepped into the Rovers, he took a shine to landlady Jenny Connor, and couldn't help but flirt with her.

The pair exchanged a few flirty comments, as he asked for her number, but fans were left distracted by the actor playing him. Ben Hull has had a previous role in Coronation Street and is also known for his roles in Hollyoaks, Holby City and Brookside.

He starred as Gary Parr in Brookside back in the early 2000s, whilst he also had a role in Hollyoaks and a couple of its spinoffs, where he portrayed the character of Lewis Richardson in the late 1990s.

More recently, he played obstetrician Derwood Thompson in Holby City.

He is played by actor Ben Hull (ITV)

Taking to Twitter, fans noticed his appearance but couldn't quite place him, as one wrote: "This actor playing Owen the businessman – has he been in #Corrie before?," as another replied: "He was in Holby City." A third shared in response: "Wasn't it Hollyoaks?"

"Owen looks familiar !! Anyone help ?? #Corrie," another shared as fans took to social media to share where he's from.

Actor Todd Boyce - who plays Stephen - previously shared his excitement at having such a key role on the soap.

"In your 20s and 30s you want to play Hamlet, in your 40s and 50s you want to play Macbeth, in your 60s and 70s you want to play King Lear, but what I have at Coronation Street is rarer than any of those milestones in a career. I feel like I’m in a very elite club and I pinch myself every day," he shared of his time on the ITV soap.

"I’m over the moon to be given the opportunity and it’s the perfect time for me to take this on. I’m probably at the height of my powers as an actor at 62. You’ve still got physical strength, you can still throw a few bins around the back alley, but if acting is hard at 62 and you’ve been doing it for 45 years then you shouldn’t probably be doing it."
