Coronavirus rates increase across Greater Manchester as region records almost 18,000 new weekly cases

Coronavirus infection rates have continued to rise in all ten boroughs of Greater Manchester, new figures have revealed. The region has recorded almost 18,000 new cases in the week ending March 26.

Trafford continues to have the highest coronavirus infection rate in Greater Manchester, with a rate of 844.8 cases per 100,000 people in the week ending March 26. The lowest infection rate is in Oldham, where the rate is 431.8 cases per 100,000 people.

In Greater Manchester as a whole, the infection rate is now 623.8 cases per 100,000 population. However, this rate is still lower than the national average, which is 873.1 cases per 100,000 people.

A total of 17,688 people tested positive for coronavirus across Greater Manchester in the week which ended on March 26. The Greater Manchester weekly total has increased by 2510 cases compared to the previous week, which means the infection rate was up 17 per cent in the last week

Hospital admissions

In the week ending on March 20, a total of 567 patients were admitted to Greater Manchester NHS hospitals with Covid-19. That is 156 more than the week before, a rise of 38 per cent

On Tuesday March 22, there were 14 Mechanical Ventilation (MV) beds occupied by Covid patients in Greater Manchester NHS hospitals. That is four more than a week earlier.

Deaths

In the week ending March 26, a total of 25 people died within 28 days of a positive Covid test across Greater Manchester, which is 3 more than the week before.

Since the start of the pandemic, there have been a total of 950,977 confirmed coronavirus cases in Greater Manchester. There has been a total of 8,871 deaths.

Cases reported in each of the ten boroughs

Bury

Bury saw a total of 1157 cases in the week ending March 26, which is 76 more than the previous week. That is a rise of seven per cent.

In Bury, the most recent coronavirus infection rate is now 606.7 cases per 100,000 people.

Stockport

There were 2346 positive tests over the last week in Stockport, which is 88 more than in the previous week.

The week-on-week trend in Stockport is up by four per cent and the latest infection rate is 797.4 cases per 100,000 people.

Salford

The trend is up in Salford, where there were 1690 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending March 26, which is 311 more than the previous 7 days. That is up by 23 per cent compared to the previous week.

The latest infection rate in Salford is 643.3 cases per 100,000 people, which is lower than the national average.

Bolton

In Bolton, the number of cases is up by 30 per cent compared to the previous week - leaving the infection rate at 508.6 cases per 100,000 population.

There were 1466 positive Covid-19 tests in Bolton in the week ending March 26, which was 342 more than the previous 7 days.

Manchester

There was a rise of 13 per cent in cases in Manchester over the week ending March 26, and the infection rate is now 584.8 cases per 100,000 population.

Manchester recorded 3250 positive Covid-19 tests over the seven-day period, and that is 380 more than the previous week.

Oldham

Oldham, which has the lowest infection rate in the region, recorded 1026 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending March 26, which is 84 more than the previous 7 days.

The coronavirus infection rate in Oldham is now 431.8 cases per 100,000 people and is up by nine per cent week-on-week.

Wigan

Wigan recorded 2140 coronavirus cases, which is 532 more than in the previous seven days.

The latest infection rate in Wigan is 647.1 cases per 100,000 people and that is up 33 per cent week-on-week.

Tameside

In Tameside, the latest infection rate is 665.7 cases per 100,000 people and the number of cases has gone up by 21 per cent.

A total of 1512 people tested positive for Covid in Tameside over the seven days ending on March 26, which is 263 more than the week before.

Trafford

In Trafford, there were 2007 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending March 26, which is 196 more than the previous 7 days.

Trafford has the highest infection rate in the region. The infection rate in Trafford is down slightly compared with the previous day but the week-on-week trend is up by 11 per cent.

Rochdale

Rochdale is an area where the trend is up. The latest infection rate here is 489.1 cases per 100,000 people.

There were 1094 cases recorded in Rochdale, which is 238 more than the previous week - a rise of 28 per cent.
