Coronavirus rates across Greater Manchester continue to plummet as hospitalisations down more than 20 percent

Coronavirus infection rates are continuing to plummet across all ten boroughs according to new figures.

And hospitalisations as a result of Covid across the region are down more than 20 per cent.

Currently, nine of the 10 boroughs in Greater Manchester also have case rates lower than the national average.

Out of all the boroughs, Tameside continues to have the highest coronavirus infection rate, with 1026.3 cases per 100,000 people in the week ending January 20.

The lowest infection rate is in Oldham, where the rate is 770.1 cases per 100,000 people.

In Greater Manchester as a whole, the infection rate is now 847.7 cases per 100,000 population.

The infection rate in the region is lower than the national average, which is 987.7 cases per 100,000 people.

A total of 24,037 people tested positive for coronavirus across Greater Manchester in the week which ended on January 20.

The Greater Manchester weekly total has decreased by 6960 cases compared to the previous week, which means the infection rate was down 22 per cent in the last week..

The infection rate is higher than the national average one area of Greater Manchester. It is lower than the national average in 9 areas.

Hospital admissions

In the week ending on January 16, a total of 967 patients were admitted to Greater Manchester NHS hospitals with Covid-19. That is 166 fewer than the week before, a fall of 21 per cent.

On Tuesday January 18, there were 38 Mechanical Ventilation (MV) beds occupied by Covid patients in Greater Manchester NHS hospitals. That is 166 fewer than a week earlier.

Deaths

In the week ending January 20, a total of 103 people died within 28 days of a positive Covid test across Greater Manchester, which is 26 fewer than the week before.

Since the start of the pandemic, there have been a total of 784,571 confirmed coronavirus cases in Greater Manchester. There has been a total of 8,343 deaths.

Rochdale

The trend is down in Rochdale, where there were 1894 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending January 20, which is 749 fewer than the previous 7 days. That is down by 28 per cent compared to the previous week.

The latest infection rate in Rochdale is 846.8 cases per 100,000 people, which is lower than the national average.

Salford

Salford saw a total of 2213 cases in the week ending January 20, which is 739 fewer than the previous week. That is a fall of 25 per cent.

In Salford, the most recent coronavirus infection rate is now 842.4 cases per 100,000 people.

Tameside

In Tameside, there were 2331 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending January 20, which is 360 fewer than the previous 7 days.

Tameside has the highest infection rate in the region. The infection rate in Tameside is down slightly compared with the previous day and the week-on-week trend is down by 13 per cent.

Stockport

Stockport is an area where the trend is down. The latest infection rate here is 779.4 cases per 100,000 people.

There were 2293 cases recorded in Stockport, which is 541 fewer than the previous week - a fall of 19 per cent.

Manchester

There was a fall of 23 per cent in cases in Manchester over the week ending January 20, and the infection rate is now 823.2 cases per 100,000 population.

Manchester recorded 4575 positive Covid-19 tests over the seven-day period, and that is 1367 fewer than the previous week.

Bury

There were 1699 positive tests over the last week in Bury, which is 327 fewer than in the previous week.

The week-on-week trend in Bury is down by 16 per cent and the latest infection rate is 890.9 cases per 100,000 people.

Bolton

Bolton recorded 2489 coronavirus cases, which is 982 fewer than in the previous seven days.

The latest infection rate in Bolton is 863.5 cases per 100,000 people and that is down 28 per cent week-on-week.

Wigan

In Wigan, the number of cases is down by 27 per cent compared to the previous week - leaving the infection rate at 804.0 cases per 100,000 population.

There were 2659 positive Covid-19 tests in Wigan in the week ending January 20, which was 974 fewer than the previous 7 days.

Oldham

Oldham, which has the lowest infection rate in the region, recorded 1830 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending January 20, which is 604 fewer than the previous 7 days.

The coronavirus infection rate in Oldham is now 770.1 cases per 100,000 people and is down by 25 per cent week-on-week.

Trafford

In Trafford, the latest infection rate is 864.6 cases per 100,000 people and the number of cases has gone down by 13 per cent.

A total of 2054 people tested positive for Covid in Trafford over the seven days ending on January 20, which is 317 fewer than the week before.
