Coronavirus infection rates remain below national average in all Greater Manchester boroughs

Coronavirus infection rates have fallen in all ten boroughs of Greater Manchester. The latest data has revealed that each of the boroughs also has a rate below the national average for the UK.

Trafford continues to have the highest coronavirus infection rate in Greater Manchester. The borough recorded a rate of 104.8 cases per 100,000 people in the week ending May 5. The lowest infection rate is in Oldham, where the rate is 69.9 cases per 100,000 people.

In Greater Manchester as a whole, the infection rate is now 91.2 cases per 100,000 population. The infection rate in the region is lower than the national average, which is 109.6 cases per 100,000 people.

A total of 2,587 people tested positive for coronavirus across Greater Manchester in the week which ended on May 5. The Greater Manchester weekly total has decreased by 762 cases compared to the previous week, which means the infection rate was down 23 per cent in the last week.

Hospital admissions

In the week ending on May 01, a total of 373 patients were admitted to Greater Manchester NHS hospitals with Covid-19. That is 49 fewer than the week before, a fall of 15 per cent.

On Tuesday May 03, there were 17 Mechanical Ventilation (MV) beds occupied by Covid patients in Greater Manchester NHS hospitals. That is the same as a week earlier.

Deaths

In the week ending May 5, a total of 38 people died within 28 days of a positive Covid test across Greater Manchester, which is 15 fewer than the week before. Since the start of the pandemic, there have been a total of 990,756 confirmed coronavirus cases in Greater Manchester. There has been a total of 9,263 deaths.

Salford

In Salford, the latest infection rate is 97.5 cases per 100,000 people and the number of cases has gone down by 14 per cent. A total of 256 people tested positive for Covid in Salford over the seven days ending on May 5, which is 42 fewer than the week before.

Manchester

In Manchester, the number of cases is down by 12 per cent compared to the previous week - leaving the infection rate at 86.4 cases per 100,000 population. There were 480 positive Covid-19 tests in Manchester in the week ending May 5, which was 63 fewer than the previous 7 days.

Tameside

There was a fall of 26 per cent in cases in Tameside over the week ending May 5, and the infection rate is now 93.3 cases per 100,000 population. Tameside recorded 212 positive Covid-19 tests over the seven-day period, and that is 76 fewer than the previous week.

Rochdale

Rochdale is an area where the trend is down. The latest infection rate here is 71.1 cases per 100,000 people. There were 159 cases recorded in Rochdale, which is 114 fewer than the previous week - a fall of 42 per cent.

Oldham

Oldham, which has the lowest infection rate in the region, recorded 166 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending May 5, which is 90 fewer than the previous 7 days. The coronavirus infection rate in Oldham is now 69.9 cases per 100,000 people and is down by 35 per cent week-on-week."

Trafford

In Trafford, there were 249 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending May 5, which is 64 fewer than the previous 7 days. Trafford has the highest infection rate in the region. The infection rate in Trafford is down slightly compared with the previous day and the week-on-week trend is down by 20 per cent.

Stockport

Stockport recorded 282 coronavirus cases, which is 97 fewer than in the previous seven days. The latest infection rate in Stockport is 95.9 cases per 100,000 people and that is down 26 per cent week-on-week.

Bury

The trend is down in Bury, where there were 181 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending May 5, which is 46 fewer than the previous 7 days. That is down by 20 per cent compared to the previous week. The latest infection rate in Bury is 94.9 cases per 100,000 people, which is lower than the national average.

Bolton

Bolton saw a total of 270 cases in the week ending May 5, which is 45 fewer than the previous week. That is a fall of 14 per cent. In Bolton, the most recent coronavirus infection rate is now 93.7 cases per 100,000 people.

Wigan

There were 332 positive tests over the last week in Wigan, which is 125 fewer than in the previous week. The week-on-week trend in Wigan is down by 27 per cent and the latest infection rate is 100.4 cases per 100,000 people.
