Coronavirus cases rise by over 50 percent in one Greater Manchester borough

Coronavirus infection rates have gone up by over 50 percent in Tameside as cases across Greater Manchester rise. Trafford continues to have the highest coronavirus infection rate in Greater Manchester.

The borough recorded a rate of 821.2 cases per 100,000 people in the week ending March 21, according to the latest data from the UK Health Security Agency.

The lowest infection rate is in Bolton, where the rate is 423.9 cases per 100,000 people. In Greater Manchester as a whole, the infection rate is now 582.2 cases per 100,000 population. The infection rate in the region is lower than the national average, which is 860.5 cases per 100,000 people.

A total of 16,510 people tested positive for coronavirus across Greater Manchester in the week which ended on March 21. The Greater Manchester weekly total has increased by 4135 cases compared to the previous week, which means the infection rate was up 33 per cent in the last week..

The infection rate is lower than the national average in all ten local authorities in Greater Manchester.

Hospital admissions

In the week ending on March 20, a total of 567 patients were admitted to Greater Manchester NHS hospitals with Covid-19. That is 156 more than the week before, a rise of 38%.

On Tuesday March 22, there were 14 Mechanical Ventilation (MV) beds occupied by Covid patients in Greater Manchester NHS hospitals. That is four more than a week earlier.

Deaths

In the week ending March 21, a total of 19 people died within 28 days of a positive Covid test across Greater Manchester, which is 0 the same as the week before.

Since the start of the pandemic, there have been a total of 938,920 confirmed coronavirus cases in Greater Manchester. There has been a total of 8,841 deaths.

Cases reported in each of the ten boroughs

In Tameside, the latest infection rate is 642.4 cases per 100,000 people and the number of cases has gone up by 59 per cent. A total of 1459 people tested positive for Covid in Tameside over the seven days ending on March 21, which is 544 more than the week before.

There were 2291 positive tests over the last week in Stockport, which is 393 more than in the previous week. The week-on-week trend in Stockport is up by 21 per cent and the latest infection rate is 778.7 cases per 100,000 people.

Bolton, which has the lowest infection rate in the region, recorded 1222 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending March 21, which is 248 more than the previous 7 days. The coronavirus infection rate in Bolton is now 423.9 cases per 100,000 people and is up by 25 per cent week-on-week.

In Trafford, there were 1951 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending March 21, which is 379 more than the previous 7 days.
Trafford has the highest infection rate in the region. The infection rate in Trafford is up slightly compared with the previous day and the week-on-week trend is up by 24 per cent.

Wigan saw a total of 1834 cases in the week ending March 21, which is 541 more than the previous week. That is a rise of 42 per cent. In Wigan, the most recent coronavirus infection rate is now 554.6 cases per 100,000 people.

There was a rise of 28 per cent in cases in Manchester over the week ending March 21, and the infection rate is now 547.6 cases per 100,000 population. Manchester recorded 3043 positive Covid-19 tests over the seven-day period, and that is 658 more than the previous week.

The trend is up in Salford, where there were 1556 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending March 21, which is 464 more than the previous 7 days. That is up by 42 per cent compared to the previous week.
The latest infection rate in Salford is 592.3 cases per 100,000 people, which is lower than the national average.

Bury recorded 1177 coronavirus cases, which is 302 more than in the previous seven days. The latest infection rate in Bury is 617.2 cases per 100,000 people and that is up 35 per cent week-on-week.

In Rochdale, the number of cases is up by 49 per cent compared to the previous week - leaving the infection rate at 432.8 cases per 100,000 population. There were 968 positive Covid-19 tests in Rochdale in the week ending March 21, which was 319 more than the previous 7 days.

Oldham is an area where the trend is up. The latest infection rate here is 424.6 cases per 100,000 people.
There were 1009 cases recorded in Oldham, which is 287 more than the previous week - a rise of 40 per cent.
