Brits hoping to enjoy Coronation street parties have been warned of heavy showers and thunderstorms in a possible washout.
Plenty of sunshine is bathing the country during midweek with temperatures expected to rise up to 20C but unsettled weather from the south east is then due to bring increasingly heavy rain.
Street parties have been planned up and down the country with royal fans eagerly awaiting the big day with bunting and souvenirs to celebrate the King’s Coronation.
Despite all the organisation, fine weather was not something that could be banked on but any rain is still unlikely to dampen the spirits.
And while the Met Office has warned of heavy rain, there are likely to be sunny spells with warm temperatures in between the showers on Saturday.
Met Office forecaster Aidan McGivern told how the weather is likely to start to become more unsettled from Thursday.
He said: “A gusty day (for Thursday) and with these showers across Wales and the southwest they’re going to move their way northwards, increasingly longer spells of rain as well and some showers perhaps breaking out into the southeast by the end of the afternoon and into the evening as well.
"Further north, largely dry, but still increasingly cloudy skies and really the weather turns more and more unsettled after that into Friday, a very showery day, some heavy downpours, thunderstorms possible in places and Saturday likewise.
"Low pressure moving in from the southwest will bring showers or longer spells of rain especially towards southwestern parts in the morning, drifting their way north eastwards during the afternoon and Sunday, Monday likewise, heavy showers out there but there will be in between those showers some spells of warm sunshine still.”
A closer look at the weather on Saturday shows that the warmest temperatures can be found in Scotland, the northeast of England and generally down the east coast but not as far down as London.
"It is likely to be sunny with increasing showers in this band and the mercury could rise to 20C."
For a tighter band that covers the southeast, central England and the northwest, their is a prediction of “sunny spells and showers” by the Met Office, with maximum temperatures of 18C.
It is likely to be generally cloudy in the southwest of England and southern Wales, though, with temperatures unlikely to rise above 16C.
The worst weather for the Coronation is set to be the east coast of Scotland where there will be wind, rain and clouds and a maximum of 11C.
