Coronation Street villain Geoff returns to screen in emotional BGT performance

Corrie actor Ian Bartholomew did a BGT audition to help Women's Aid.

Ian, 67, who played wife-beater Geoff Metcalfe, sang his own song on Sunday. Men should acknowledge the domestic abuse problem, he said.

The villian died a horrific death during an episode in 2020 that left viewers utterly shocked.

He fell off the roof after chasing Yasmeen Nazir (Shelley King) up there when he set their home alight, but Alya (Sair Khan) managed to hold him off after waking up from him knocking her out and tracking him down.

However, Geoff slipped and fell, dying instantly despite Yasmeen valiantly trying to save his life - after finally telling him she was not scared of him any more in the dramatic showdown.

Finding her courage, Yasmeen told Geoff: "To feel big you had to make me small, and I went along with it and yes I was scared of the shouting and the sulking, but mostly I felt sorry for you."

Geoff shot back: "You can't rewrite history, you begged like a dog."

"And you enjoyed it, you pathetic excuse for a man," said Yasmeen.

She told Alya: "You should see him when he's off guard, engrossed in a film, his mouth open catching flies, he still sucks his thumb when he thinks no one is watching.

She continued: "I am not scared of you any more, do you hear me? If the plan is to push me, you just look me in the eye and know I am not scared of you any more."

Geoff reached out to grab Yasmeen but fell, shouting: "Don't just lie there, help me please!"

Alya begged Yamseen: "He will pull you down with him, he doesn't deserve it, he's beyond help!"

"I'm not," replied Yasmeen, taking off her scarf and trying to help Geoff back up, but he lost his grip and went tumbling down to the ground where he lay dead, with Yasmeen's chickens pecking around him as the music from the protest reached a creshendo.

"Don't look," Alya warned Yasmeen.

Yasmeen was found not guilty of attempting to murder Geoff when she bottled him in the neck in self-defence.
