Coronation Street star stuns shoppers as he turns up in Burnside supermarket

A starstruck Burnside supermarket worker couldn’t believe her eyes when one of the country’s biggest soap stars strolled into her store.

Actor Jack P Shepherd, who plays troubled David Platt in Coronation Street, collected a trolley last Saturday afternoon to pick up some essentials from Tesco Extra in Stonelaw Road.

While some of her colleagues who’d recognised the actor were too shy to make an approach, Amelia Dzierozynski didn’t hesitate to approach Jack and ask for a photograph with him.

“I walked up to him and said, ‘I know who you are, but I know you as David Platt. I don’t know your real name’,” explained Amelia, of Blantyre.

“He laughed and said: ‘It’s Jack.’”

Amelia says the actor, who has played David Platt in the ITV soap since April 2000, happily agreed to be snapped with her.

“I found him quite quiet,” explained the store worker, who says a couple of Tesco customers also asked to be pictured with the Corrie star.

“He wasn’t in your face like some celebrities. He never made a fuss of the fact that he was in the store. He was with another couple of people, but I didn’t recognise them. And I didn’t look into his trolley to see what he was buying!”

It is believed the actor was in town for a pal’s 30th birthday celebrations.

Shepherd has also had roles on stage, taking part in productions of West Side Story and Oliver! during his career.

It’s not the first time Amelia has rubbed shoulders with a TV personality.

As a girl, she remembers meeting the host of children’s TV favourite Glen Michael, whose career at Scottish Television spanned several decades with the popular show Glen Michael’s Cartoon Cavalcade.
