Coronation Street star Alexandra Mardell leaves fans 'crying' as she announces new Aldi role after soap exit

Ex-Corrie actress Alexandra Mardell has left her former co-stars and fans 'crying' after revealing her latest job. The actress, who played Emma Brooker in the soap, has announced she's taken on a role with budget supermarket Aldi after her exit from the soap last year.

The bubbly hairdresser first arrived on the cobbles in 2018, and in just four years made a big, pink and glittery impression on the Coronation Street residents.

Initially working as an apprentice at Audrey's salon, Emma's storylines have also included a fling with David Platt, Chesney Brown and Seb Franklin, before a rocky romance almost led her to marrying troublemaker Curtis Delamere.

Mardell announced her departure from the show in February 2022, with the actress saying it was the 'right time' to go. She departed from the soap in April 2022 .

Now, Emma has moved onto new opportunities, and now she has taken on a role she felt "connected" to, for supermarket giant Aldi, Liverpool Echo reports.

Sharing a video on her Instagram page, the 29-year-old said: "I am… Sausage Casserole! Never felt so connected to a role!". It comes as Alex plays the dish in a new Aldi advert.

A family can be seen tucking into the meal, which a narrator says costs just £2.69 for everyone. Next, a cooking pot, voiced by Alex, says: "Just £2.69?"

Alex's Corrie co-stars have rushed to comment on the clip. Jenny Connor star Sally Ann Matthews said: "Oh my God. That’s totally being assigned as your ring tone. Love it! x", while Georgia Taylor, who plays Toyah Habeeb, said: "Absolute banger".

Meanwhile, fans have left strings of crying laughing emojis, clearly amused my Alexandra's latest gig. One even said it was the 'role you were born to play!'
