Coronation Street spoilers: Summer collapses in prison cell amid frightening health battle

Coronation Street's Summer Spellman has been on a worrying path on the ITV soap, but escalates to a dangerous level next week when the teen is rushed to hospital.

Summer, played by Harriet Bibby, has been struggling with an eating disorder in heartbreaking scenes on the ITV soap.

But ITV spoilers have now revealed that after being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, she is also left struggling to control her insulin levels.

On top of this, fragile Summer has also been piling pressure on herself as she crams for exams in the hopes of securing the grades she needs to get into university.

But amid fears she was overdoing it, her friends convinced her to enjoy a night out, leading Summer to binge drinking, playing havoc with her insulin levels.

In next week's instalment of Coronation Street, Summer's friend Amy Barlow (Elle Mulvaney), who has recently learnt of her eating disorder, confronts Summer at Victoria Gardens and points out it is putting her in serious danger.

Summer responds angrily and urges Amy to back off. Meanwhile, bad boy Jacob Hay spots an opportunity to make some quick cash when he discovers that Evelyn Plummer has over-ordered alcopops at the Corner Shop.

Although Jacob doesn't have a licence to sell booze, he's willing to take the risk as he needs money to pay the rent.

Jacob buys the unwanted bottles and quickly begins selling them in Victoria Gardens for a tidy profit.

But his business venture is quickly curtailed when Simon Barlow spots what Jacob is up to and calls the police.

As officers arrive at Victoria Gardens, Jacob does a runner and leaves two boxes of alcopops behind.

Summer’s worrying pattern of behaviour could then turn out to have dangerous consequences, when the police then discover her slumped on a bench next to the bottles.

Unaware of her diabetes and needs medical attention, they assume she’s drunk and take her to the police station.

Luckily Amy (Elle Mulvaney) and Aadi (Adam Hussain) are both concerned when they discover what happened and tip off Craig (Colson Smith) that Summer's collapse may have been caused by her diabetes.

Craig rushes to the cells at the police station, where he finds Summer in a diabetic coma.

As Craig desperately shouts for someone to call an ambulance, he fears the worst. Is Summer going to be okay?

Coronation Street airs these scenes on Monday, April 18 at 8pm on ITV and the ITV Hub.
