Coronation Street serial killer Stephen Reid risks being exposed amid Owen twist

Coronation Street serial killer Stephen Reid risks being exposed next week as his plan goes wrong.

Stephen has been desperately trying to keep his three murders under the radar. He has killed Teddy and his son Leo, whilst also murdering his 'business associate' Rufus by drowning him in his own pool.

However, it looks like the walls are closing in on Stephen again as he continues to try and pay the life insurance on his partner Elaine. Stephen is penniless and has been using the factory to make the payments on the life insurance.

He has been using the company to make the £480 payment, taking it from Underworld's bank account and sending it to a private account in the name of Seagull Ltd, which he then uses to pay the next instalment of the life insurance.

When Carla tells him that Owen wants to see the company accounts, Stephen tries to keep his anxiety at bay.

Many fans are convinced Elaine could be the one to die next - as Todd Boyce weighed in on the theory.

Speaking exclusively to The Mirror, he said: "That would be the numbers you would connect..."

However, Todd also confirmed there are some other characters at risk too.

"He's got a few people who are getting on his nerves or making him nervous because they could jeopardise his future. He's worked so hard and I think he's come this far. He doesn't want to have to have done all this in vain. He wants to have a nice life," he said.

Todd previously revealed his character will start taking risks as he "gets more desperate".

Speaking about what's to come, he said: "We are going to see him start taking risks as he gets more desperate, his life is starting to unravel and it is going to be interesting to see how he deals with the pressure. He is bound to start making mistakes and that could be his undoing. He certainly sees Owen as someone who is in his way."

ITV soap's executive producer Iain MacLeod teased earlier this year that Stpehen will get "increasingly desperate".

Speaking to The Mirror and other press, he said: "The story is a bit like a film noir – due to his fatal flaw of arrogance and egotism, a man's need to be top dog drives him into increasingly desperate acts over the next 12 months. There's lots to come, in the best tradition of Corrie villains. If you compare him to our esteemed bad guys of the past."
