Coronation Street's Stephanie Davis 'felt sick' after discovering she got job which she says was 'fate'

New Coronation Street star Stephanie Davis has told how she ended up 'feeling sick' after finding out she got her first TV job in three years. The former Hollyoaks actress has been cast as Courtney Vance in the ITV soap for an upcoming saucy affair storyline.

It was said at the time of her casting announcement that 30-year-old Stephanie, who will be known for playing Sinead O'Connor in Channel 4's Hollyoaks, will play the glamorous wife of Darren, one of Dev Alahan's new business associates. And it won't be long before she begins to pursue a fling with Dev's teen son Aadi Alahan.

Stephanie's audition for Corrie marked the first since she decided to return to work since welcoming her son, Caben Albi, in 2017 with her TV personality ex-Jeremy McConnell. "All this was fate, it's crazy really," Stephanie started when talking about how she got the role in Corrie.

"I took time out to be a mum to my little boy Caben and I said to my partner, 'I need to get back to work. I need to hear rolling up and action. I need to do what I love again'. I said I was going to get a new agent and have a fresh start and so I applied for a new agent and on the day I went to meet her, she said, 'What do you want to do?' and I said, 'I want to do Coronation Street. And throw in a Panto as well for Christmas', laughing and joking with her."

She continued: "She was taken aback and [said] people are usually like, 'anything that comes up,' but I was like no, I want to do Coronation Street."

Stephanie was actually getting her eyelashes done when she got the call from her agent to reveal a part had come up on Corrie. "You know when you have that feeling that everything's too good to be true? This was my first audition back in three years," she said. Stephanie's agent then sent her over the brief for the part and as soon as she read it, she says she knew it was hers. "I was like, 'this is mine!'" she told us.

"So I did the audition and I just went through a wave of emotions... It was everything I wanted but I thought, 'This is too good to be true. It's my first audition back. No one gets their first audition' but then the phone rang and she was like, 'You've got it!' and it didn't sink in. I actually started crying... I just couldn't believe how quickly it had all happened and I was so, so grateful.

"And obviously, as a kid, [I] grew up with Coronation Street on the television in the home and I just felt like everything happened for a reason and I felt so grateful and blessed and couldn't believe how one minute I was telling my new agent I want to do Coronation Street and the next minute I've got the part. It was a whirlwind but amazing."

Asked how she celebrated bagging the role, Stephanie revealed it was low-key but a bit of a blow-out for her and her boyfriend Joseph Mckalroy. "Me and my partner went o Lunya, it's one of our favourite restaurants in Liverpool and we literally ordered the whole menu of tapas to the point I was literally feeling sick when we got home I ate that much," she told us.

"So we just ate our weight in tapas and then I went just before we went out for the tapas I called round to my mum and dad's and my brothers were there and my brother's girlfriend Lydia and everyone was just sat their dead casual and I let them carry on talking. My mum was mid-conversation when I turned round to her and went, 'I got it you know!'"

She shared how her mum's face was a picture of shock before saying they were all "made up" for her. "I've got a big family and everyone was in this living room. The reactions were just amazing and Joe's dad was crying on the phone. It was just amazing to see their reactions. So we ate our weight in tapas and came home and put Netflix on."
