Coronation Street's Sally Dynevor uses Dancing on Ice to inspire women to be 'amazing in their 50s'

Coronation Street legend Sally Dynevor is hoping to inspire women and prove that there is still life after menopause.

Best known for playing busy body Sally Webster on the ITV soap's cobbles, the 58-year-old has swapped scripts for skates as she competes in Dancing on Ice.

As the oldest contestant on the ice skating competition Sally said she is determined to inspire women as she sees her place in the show as a rally cry to millions who might feel like life has passed them by.

Speaking to The Mirror, she said: “I think when you get to a certain age you start to lose confidence in yourself. It’s very different being in your 20s to being in your 50s.

"You’ve got to find things that make you happy again. I want to inspire women of my age who are going through the menopause, or perhaps been through it, which is tough.

"You hear so many negative stories about going through the menopause and coming out the other end, I just want to make it into a positive experience.

"I just want to say to older women, ‘Let’s not give up, let’s be amazing in our 50s’."

Sally recently received an MBE for services to drama for her part in Coronation Street, but admits that she has enjoyed the change in wardrobe since appearing on Dancing on Ice, dancing alongside professional partner Matt Evers, 45.

She said: "The first time you see yourself in hair pieces and fishnet tights, it’s a bit like, ‘Oh my God, who is that?’

“It’s so not me, I’m such a boy dresser, I’m in jeans every day, I don’t even wear dresses, so for me, it’s massive to go into these little sparkly things, but it’s great!

“I’ve never felt as sexy as I do when I’ve got those hair pieces in , the fishnet tights and the sequins on!"

She added: "How brilliant, 50-odd and you’re turning into a little diva! I’m secretly getting used to it. I might have to ask Corrie to write in a few scenes with me wearing hair extensions and fishnet tights.

“Wouldn’t that be great? I’d absolutely love that!”

Dancing On Ice airs Sundays at 6.30pm on ITV and ITV Hub
