Coronation Street's Daisy and Daniel set for epic plot 'you don't generally see on TV', says show boss

Coronation Street bosses have teased what’s to come on the show for Danieal Osbourne, played by Rob Mallard, and Daisy Midgley, played by Charlotte Jordan.

The Weatherfield love birds seemed ready for 2023, as they got engaged over the festive period.

However, it appears that the couple may not get the prosperous year they were hoping for.

A stalker comes into the picture and begins to lurk in the shadows, coming from Daisy’s social media.

Producer of the soap, Iain MacLeod has confirmed that Daisy will be facing "a certain degree of danger" ahead of her nuptials with Daniel.

He explained: "It's a kind of story about being a young woman on the internet and the kind of dangers that face influencers.

"Daisy is quite small fry but she's got a certain amount of online following and this essentially brings her a certain degree of danger as the wedding approaches.

"Most of the story is built as quite light-hearted with cultural clash comedy between Daniel, who feels they should have a Dickens themed wedding and Daisy's like 'are you having a laugh?'

"It's the idea of having this mini Ken Barlow who wants this serious and academic wedding and then Daisy who wants everything to be a bit extra."

Iain continued: "There's loads of good fun to be had there but in the background there's this creeping danger that arises from Daisy's online life and by the time that surfaces, and it takes a while for Daisy and Daniel to realise that this danger is brewing.

“By the time that lands we're really in this interesting sort of current socially important story with far-reaching psychological impact which runs across the whole of 2023 and threatens their relationship and leads on Daisy faith in Daniel being shaken as she maybe has her head turned."

Fans of the show will be introduced to Daisy’s mum, Christina, in the upcoming storyline.

"We do meet her mum in the middle. Her mum is chaotic, selfish, hates Jenny. She's played by Amy Robbins.," Iain told the Daily Star.

"It also illuminates Daisy's backstory because she presents this put-together, confident in her own skin and sort of glamorous young woman but we discover that her past is slightly sadder than that.

"Nothing hugely tragic or traumatic but it really balances out the crazy nonsense of her wedding planning.

"It's hugely important story for us and one you don't generally see on television.

"Lots of play out for those two characters in the new year."
