Coronation Street's Charlie Condou shares how Kathy Burke helped him become a dad

Coronation Street's Charlie Condou explains how Kathy Burke helped him father a child

The Loose Women ladies welcomed a Coronation Street veteran and his partner to the panel as part of their Pride month celebrations. Charlie Condou, who plays Marcus Dent, was joined by his husband, Cameron Laux, to discuss raising kids as same-sex partners and their struggles getting their family off the ground as two gay men.

Cameron said it was extremely difficult to wrap his head around the idea of having a family due to his sexuality, but when Charlie opened his mind to the thought, he realised it wasn't unrealistic. The couple gushed over their two kids, Georgia, 12 and Hal, nine, but agreed they were quite the handful as they are "at that age."

Loose Women regular Brenda Edwards noted comedian Kathy Burke had a part in the pair becoming fathers, leading Charlie to reminisce on the situation. He said: "I've known her for years, since I was about 18, and I had always wanted to be a dad but when I came out and I realised I was gay I remember thinking 'this probably isn't going to happen to me now.'

"You couldn't adopt in those days and co-parenting wasn't a thing and all that so it didn't feel like an option. I remember talking to Kathy about it and being really upset and I was too young to have kids at that point but she just said to me 'if you want to be a dad be a dad."

Charlie admitted Kathy used words "not suitable for daytime" but admitted with her help he was able to find the right path in becoming a dad. He added without her being a source to confide in and someone to go to whenever he needed help, he doesn't believe he would have ever become a father.
