Coronation Street reviewed: Elaine is taken for a ride by Stephen with another killer twist as he looks set to murder again

Worried son Tim Metcalfe took matters into his own hands on Wednesday night's Coronation Street as he tried to put a stop to his mum Elaine Jones marrying Stephen Reid. Tim correctly assumes that bogus businessman Stephen is after his mum's money, but he has no idea just how much danger she is in.

Elaine protested that Stephen is nothing like that 'monster', her abusive ex husband Geoff Metcalfe, unaware that she was planning to elope in Las Vegas with a serial killer. Tim offered to run Elaine and Stephen to the airport, making out that he accepted their marriage plans.

But really he was luring Elaine into his taxi and leaving Stephen on the doorstep, keeping her in his car until she saw sense. The mother and son 'hostage' drama ended with Elaine back on the cobbles, and worryingly she suffered a funny turn due to high blood pressure. Stephen was fuming with Tim for 'getting into her head' as she asked if they really were in such a hurry to get married if it wasn't the cash from her house sale that he was after.

He then surprised Elaine, Tim and his wife Sally on the ITV soap as he announced that he had asked solicitor Adam Barlow to draw up a prenuptial agreement to 'take money out of the equation.' As the family prepared to celebrate, Stephen was up to no good again as he was shown alone, filling in a life insurance policy for Elaine as he looks set to claim another life for his advantage.

Stephen was recently revealed as killing Underworld client Rufus Donahue after he had blackmailed him into giving him 50 per cent of the factory's Nippersnapper profits. In a shocking flashback scene he spiked Rufus' drink with LSD, pushed him into his home swimming pool, and held his head under the water.

It came after Stephen killed Leo Thompkins last year after he was about to expose him as a conman. He then murdered Leo's dad Teddy after he worked out that he had done away with his son.
