Coronation Street legend explains reason for quitting show

Coronation Street Helen Worth Gail Platt

Helen Worth, who portrayed Gail Platt on Coronation Street for five decades, announced her decision to leave the ITV soap in 2024.
The 75-year-old actor cited the demanding workload in her final year as a factor in her decision, stating it felt like the 'perfect time' to depart after 50 years.
Worth's character, Gail Platt, was notable for being the series' most married female, her daughter Sarah's teenage pregnancy storyline, and her involvement in various dramatic plots and street brawls.
In 2023, Helen Worth was awarded an MBE for her services to drama, which she received from Prince William.
Her departure was one of several recent cast exits, though fellow actor Andy Whyment dismissed reports of the show being in trouble or facing a “cast revolt”.
