Coronation Street launching its own gin called Wonky Duck - in honour of its flying birds

Here's a move that would leave Hilda Ogden tippled pink...

Coronation Street is launching its own brand of premium gin. The product will be called Wonky Duck, in honour of the iconic character's famous flying birds.

The duck trio, which featured the middle one out of position on her wall, will be used to decorate the gin bottle. The bottle itself is blue, with gold and white detail.

Manchester-based distillers No. 186 have worked with the ITV soap to create the drink. The firm's Lynsey Postlethwaite said: "It's been a labour of love creating this beautiful, unique gin for Corrie."

Lynsey continued: "We know Hilda liked a port and lemon in the Rovers but we're sure if it was around back then she'd have ordered a Wonky Duck and tonic. The hints of honey and warm currants would be right up her street."

ITV merchandising boss William Van Rest added: "It's the perfect Christmas present." Wonky Duck gin is on sale at £33.99.

It's in honour of the flying ducks display that was owned by the character Hilda Ogden, played by Jean Alexander (pictured) (Press Association)

Hilda, played by Jean Alexander from 1964 to 1987, once said of the birds: "They're beautiful. I just wish that middle one would buck itself up a bit."

And they even saved her life. Hilda told Sally Webster: "I've come in here more times than I care to remember, cold, wet, bone-tired, not a penny in me purse. Seeing them ducks and that muriel…they've kept me hand away from t'gas tap."

Jean quit Corrie in 1987 to try other roles. She died in 2016 aged 90.
