Coronation Street fans were "screaming" at their TVs during the episode on New Year's Eve as they thought they'd worked out a new cobbles romance.
Soap fans saw Stephen Reid get close to Jenny Connor in her hour of need. She held his hand as she thanked him for being "there for her".
But little does Jenny know that Stephen killed her fiancé Leo Thompkins, just as they were both about to start a new life in Canada.

Stephen murdered Leo after he discovered his scheme to get his hands on Audrey's money. Poor Leo was pushed from the factory roof into a skip, and Stephen later buried him.
He later tried to kill Teddy, by trying to switch off his life support as he lay in hospital after being hit by a van. Jenny interrupted, and Teddy is likely to make a full recovery.
And as Jenny cosied up to Stephen during scenes that aired on Saturday, fans were left screaming "please no". Taking to Twitter, Ryan said: "PLEASE DO NOT LET JENNY AND STEPHEN GET TOGETHER".
Leyla said: "Please no, actually screaming at my tele". Greg said: "Christmas 2023. Stephen has done away with Elaine, took over the knicker factory and is married to Jenny...", and Niall said: "Jenny, please wake up and smell the coffee".
Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV and the ITV Hub
