Coronation Street fans beg character to return for 'one last task'

Coronation Street fans are begging for a familiar face to return to the soap to perform "one last task".

It comes as Street serial killer Stephen Reid continues to pursue his evil schemes. Stephen has killed three people during his time on the cobbles, as well as embezzling thousands of pounds from his mum, Audrey Roberts.

Posting in a Facebook group set up by and for fans of the long-running ITV drama, one viewer shared a photo that had been edited to show previous villain Pat Phelan holding a gun to Stephen's head. The post said: "Who would like Pat Phelan to come back for one last task?"

Other fans were quick to have their say, with many finding the post hilarious. One Facebook user said: "This post is ridiculous - Pat Phelan is dead, so how can he return to the Street?"

But many others made similar comments in response. One fan said: "Stranger things have happened in Soapland" [sic] and another added: "People often come back from the dead in soaps to be fair".

One woman said: "Be brilliant to get rid of Stephen once and for all", but another replied: "Noooo, love Stephen and [Todd Boyce] is a great actor" [sic]. A third said: "I don't think so! I want him to pay for all his crimes".

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV and ITVX
