Coronation Street drops hint Stephen Reid will kill again with final scenes of 2022

Coronation Street have dropped a huge hint that Stephen Reid will kill again next year.

As 2022 comes to a close on the ITV soap, fans were sure ITV bosses sealed a murder in the coming weeks as killer Stephen Reid risks having his lies exposed. He murdered Leo Thompkins earlier in the year and hid his body, pretending he had gone to Canada without his girlfriend Jenny's knowledge, leaving her heartbroken.

However, his father Teddy is adamant that he isn't in Canada and has been determined to crack the case. Yesterday, he arrived back in the Cobbles and told Stephen his friend has worked out Leo's texts had been sent from Weatherfield, not Canada.

Just as Teddy was about to tell Jenny what he'd found out, he was knocked over by a vehicle and rushed to hospital. Stephen, convinced he would die from his injuries, told Jenny that Teddy had found out Leo was in Canada.

Tonight, as the residents gathered outside to bid farewell to 2022, they watched as the fireworks light up the sky over the Cobbles. Stephen joined Jenny outside initially, who thanked Stephen for his support with injured Teddy.

He then headed over to Elaine and told her 2023 was going to be a big year for them all.

However, in final scenes, Teddy was laying in the hospital bed with various machines around him. As the nurses walked around his intensive care room, the camera panned to his hands which started moving. When the camera landed on his face, his eyes shot open and it was revealed he is very much alive - but will he pull through or will Stephen have to take drastic measures?

Actor Todd Boyce has teased Stephen could very much kill again.

"I don't know, I'm not sure. I think he's capable of just killing more people and going on and doing that, but watch this space," Todd said when asked if Stephen might be able to kill again after murdering Leo.

Todd's co-stars are also fearing the worst, he joked, revealing: "In the green room, I've been offered a lot of cups of tea by a lot of people who wanna find out how long I'm going to be doing the show, and how many people I am gonna kill."

Actor Todd had previously insisted Stephen is a "desperate" man and desperate people do desperate things.

"I do think he is. He's just driven. He's a kind of type-A personality and he's just desperate and desperate people do desperate things," he said, "Now he has done it once it won't even feel as bad for him the next time, the end justifies the means.

"I don't think he's really internalised [the murder]. And he's had to sort of just keep on going and not dwell on what he has done, but there is no way he can keep that up. The pressure is really showing."
