Coronation Street - All of the characters set to leave the ITV soap this year

Coronation Street is set to see a shake up tonight as ITV makes some huge changes to its scheduling.

But a new time slot isn't the only thing that's changing for the Cobbles this year as different characters come and go.

Dramatic storylines will often see much-loved characters getting killed off or leaving the street to start new adventures.

We take a look at all of the familiar faces who are leaving the ITV soap so far this year.

Imran Habeeb - played by Charlie de Melo

Charlie has been playing the role of Imran for the past five years but will reportedly be leaving the character behind later this year.

Imran first arrived in Corrie in 2017 as the older brother of Rana Habeeb who escaped to the cobbles to seek comfort from his failing marriage. He had a close relationship with Rana and Alya Nazir - who he saw as a second sister after she befriended Rana at university.

Imran was one of the first people Rana came out to and he was supportive of her relationship with Kate Connor. He has also been involved with a number of women on the street including sisters Leanne and Toyah Battersby and Abi Franklin.

Things finally seem to be looking up for Imran after he and Toyah became engaged and made plans to adopt their foster daughter Elsie. However the secret of his one-night stand with Abi looms over him and is sure to lead to his downfall.

Emma Brooker - played by Alexandra Mardell

Coronation Street actress Alexandra Mardell recently decided to leave her role as the cobbles' Emma Brooker.

Bubbly pink-wearing Emma arrived as an apprentice hairdresser at Audrey Roberts' salon and had a fling with Audrey's grandson David Platt when she first arrived on the ITV soap four years ago.

But now, the actress claims it is 'the right time' to put the character behind her and to move on to new opportunities.

Writing on her Instagram stories, Alexandra said: "Playing Emma, on the most iconic street there is, has been the best experience of my life. Four years have gone so fast.

"Compared to other cast members, I still feel like a newbie, which makes my decision to leave all the more difficult. But now is the right time as a number of exciting opportunities beckon.

"Although, who knows, maybe the street hasn't seen the last of Emma Brooker."

Emma is currently covering up the accident in which she and Faye Windass accidentally ran over an old man named Ted.

Ted later died as a result of the accident leaving Emma and Faye wracked with guilt as they cover up their crime. Emma has since found herself falling for Ted's grandson with the secret hanging over her.

Alexandra's final scenes on the soap are set to air in April.

Laura Neelan - played by Kel Allen

Kel Allen decided that now was the right time to bow out of the long-standing soap.

She explained: "I think for me, it's bittersweet. I guess Laura could have stayed around but then what would have happened?

"She’d be up to her old tricks again. Every actor wants to get their teeth into something so gritty, and there are always twists and turns."

She added: "For me, I'm excited for what's to come. I'll be so sad when I leave, because obviously, I've made so many bonds with everybody off set."

Laura first appeared on Corrie as the estranged wife of loan shark Rick Neelan and the mother of troubled teenager Kelly. Laura has let Kelly down on a number of occasions including attempting to sell stories about Kelly while she was on trial for murder.

Recently, Laura came back into Kelly's life and revealed she was terminally-ill and wanted to spend her final months making peace with her daughter. Although hesitant to believe her mum, Kelly later began visiting Laura to care for her.

Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday on ITV and ITV Hub
