Cornell University ‘gang rape’ victim was lured into a closet and raped by the accused men as she was ‘in and out of consciousness'

Fresh developments have emerged in the alleged ‘gang rape’ case at Cornell University, where a former student has sued seven fraternity members, accusing them of sexual assault.

The members of the Chi Phi fraternity shared a photo of the alleged victim, identified as Jane Doe, on Snapchat the night of the alleged assault, CBS News reported, citing social media images. The photo obtained by the news outlet, through Jane Doe's attorney, showed the victim smiling with another man.

It was circulated in a Snapchat group with several Chi Phi fraternity brothers on the night she was allegedly assaulted at the Chi Phi fraternity house at Cornell in October 2024. No charges were filed back then, and no arrests took place when the woman first reported the allegations to campus police.

The former Cornell University student sued seven Chi Phi fraternity members and the university. She filed a complaint in September 2026 alleging that she was drugged and sexually assaulted in October 2024 when she was 20 years old. The complaint claimed that the alleged rapes lasted hours.

Jane Doe makes more shocking claims

In an interview with investigators, obtained by CBS News, Jane Doe alleged that during that night there was a point where the accused men lured her into a closet. “It was just raping,” she alleged, referring to the closet.

The victim further noted that she was in and out of consciousness, according to the news outlet. According to Tompkins County District Attorney Matthew Van Houten, no charges were filed in 2024, when the alleged incident was first reported to campus police.

In 2026, the incident has again hogged the limelight, with Van Houten saying that his office was reopening the investigation and preparing to present the case to a grand jury. In a statement, he said that the statement given by the victim in 2024 was different from the allegations found in the 2026 complaint.
