Cornell University has again come under fire for the 2024 alleged gang rape incident after prosecutors in central New York reopened the investigation into the shocking allegations that seven Cornell University frat brothers drugged and gang-raped a former student.
The decision comes days after a fresh lawsuit was filed in Manhattan Supreme Court alleging that the victim, identified only as Jane Doe, was coerced into taking drugs, assaulted, and raped by several men at the Chi Phi fraternity house at Cornell in 2024, as reported by The New York Post. The plaintiff no longer attends the Ivy League university.
Tompkins County District Attorney Matthew Van Houten said that his office is mulling bringing criminal charges. However, he also stated that the allegations in the latest civil complaint are “dramatically different” than the woman’s statement to police in 2024. “It's our intention to present the case to the Tompkins County grand jury with Jane Doe's cooperation,” Van Houten told ABC News. “We want to reexamine whether there's additional evidence that we were not aware of in November of 2024 that exists now that would change our assessment of the case and would result in the grand jury finding that there was criminal conduct.”
Chilling claims emerge in fresh lawsuit
According to the shocking claims made in the new lawsuit, the frat brothers drugged her with ketamine and gang-raped her and texted that there was “free p****y’’ as she lay unconscious. The members of the Chi Phi fraternity at the prestigious Ivy League campus in upstate New York are now being sued by the anonymous student. She was allegedly “commanded” by one of them to snort the drug off of his erect genitalia as she was helplessly sexually attacked by others in October 2024,” The NY Post reported, citing the Manhattan Supreme Court filing.
“Free p—y,” one of the male students messaged at 1:42 a.m. in a Snapchat group titled “Chi Phi Actives,” the news outlet reported, citing a screenshot that was included in the court filing. and allegedly invited multiple Ivy League creeps to join in the fraternity bedroom to assault the young woman.
In her new lawsuit, the plaintiff claimed that she left her family and flew across the country to go to Cornell about two years earlier and “immediately encountered a glorified—yet materially false and misleading—façade of Cornell University Greek life.”
How did it all start
Things took a horrific turn on the night she was allegedly assaulted when the young woman met up with one of the defendants at a Tudor-style frathouse mansion, her suit claims. An evening out with her sorority sisters ended in a terrifying sexual assault that went on for hours.
She was allegedly forced to snort ketamine for the first time in her life when she refused a threesome with two frat brothers, according to court documents. The filing revealed more chilling details, claiming that the defendants then “began engaging in sexual acts with Plaintiff, all without her consent,” as quoted by The Post. When one frat brother left, another entered to take his place.
The lawsuit claims the assault continued until 5:45 that morning. The alleged sexual assault was reported in 2024 to both campus and Ithaca police about a week later, and the fraternity and seven accused students were placed on temporary suspensions, the lawsuit said.
