A car with three passengers inside, two of whom were children, has plunged into a river and witnesses watched in horror as it sunk.
Emergency services raced to the scene of the major incident at Kennedy quay in Cork this evening.
Two of the three passengers are believed to have been children and the third, the driver, is thought to be still trapped underwater.
Divers are currently believed to be searching for the driver and anyone else who was present in the car at the fateful moment it fell into the water.
A major search and rescue operation is underway after a vehicle plunged into the quay, involving Cork city gardai, ambulances and fire services.

Eyewitnesses to the horrific incident could only watch as the car hurtled into the river, Cork Live reported.
They have said that two passengers, the children, were able to free themselves from the car as it sank deeper into the water and swim to safety. They have since been taken to hospital.
However, another passenger, the driver, is feared to have been trapped inside the car.
Their condition is unknown but the first reports of the incident began appearing prior to 9pm this evening.
Emergency services are seeing to the two passengers who escaped and have launched a search operation for the third.
A video from the scene showed a helicopter hovering overhead as emergency vehicles rushed to the quay side.
The incident is believed to have happened before 9pm this evening.
The Garda have been approached for comment.
This is not the first time such an incident has occurred on Cork quay in the last few years.
Both last year and the year before saw similar incidents where a car was found to have drove into the water.
On both occasions a body was subsequently pulled from the water as well.
