Cork City claim they will slap 12-month bans on fans if they throw flares on the pitch during matches.
The First Division club was reacting to incidents that occurred during recent games away to Bray Wanderers and at home to Galway United.
The Rebels were hit with fines totalling €1600 and a club statement read: “This is an unbudgeted expense that we cannot afford.
“It will ultimately be taken out of any potential increases to the first-team budget in future.
“As a members owned club we do not have someone to write a cheque to the FAI every week and the fines directly impact the Board’s ability to invest in our teams.”
The Cork City statement continued: “The use of Pyrotechnics inside any football stadium (home or away) is outlawed and will be met with the strictest of punishments.
“Any supporter who is found to be throwing pyrotechnics / flares onto the field of play, or in the direction of the field of play, will immediately receive a 12-month ban from Turners Cross.
“Their details will also be circulated by An Garda Siochána to the Gardaí associated with other clubs.”
Bray Wanderers have also threatened fans with stadium bans at the Carlisle Grounds if they throw objects or flares onto the pitch.
And the Seagulls have decided to introduce a ‘strict no bag’ policy at its matches and conduct searches going into the ground.
