Cops probing murder of Scots hotel manager in St Lucia 'no closer to solving case'

Police probing the fatal shooting of a former Scots hotel manager in St Lucia have renewed an appeal for information amid claims they are no closer to solving the case.

Donnie McKinnon was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident last December after he was gunned down at Steve's Bar in Soufriere. Pal Peter Jackson was rushed to hospital for treatment and survived the shooting.

It is understood 48-year-old Donnie had been living in the area after moving to St Lucia 13 years ago where he was the manager of a 2,000 acre former working plantation on the Caribbean island, Soufriere Estate.

Aberdeen Live reports that before Donnie emigrated, he was the general manager of the well-known Marcliffe Hotel and Spa in Aberdeen between 2007 and 2009.

It is believed Peter, from Lancashire, previously worked as the director of the Soufriere Regional Development Foundation and had been living in St Lucia for more than 30 years.

While two men were initially arrested in connection with Donnie's death, they were later released without charge.

The Scottish Sun now reports that police are no closer to solving the case, with claims the case has been complicated by the ambush suspects wearing Covid masks at the time.

A police source was quoted as saying: "We are appealing to the public directly and are calling on them once more to provide us with information that will lead to an arrest and conviction of the suspects involved with this murder.

“Someone must know who did this and we want them to come and talk to us in confidence. We are making a direct appeal to people to come forward.”
