Cops lock down Aberdeen city centre after 'disturbance' involving multiple people

Police have locked down a city centre street following a 'disturbance' involving multiple people in Aberdeen on Monday morning.

The public have been asked to avoid the area following the police incident at 8.30am on February 27. George Street is currently closed off at its junction John Street, Craigie Street and Maberly Street.

It's unknown what the nature of the disturbance is with police confirming that enquiries are "ongoing".

Images from Aberdeen Live show the area cordoned off with police tape and multiple vehicles.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were made aware of a disturbance involving a number of people on George Street in Aberdeen shortly after 8.30am on Monday, 27 February.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”

North East Police Division posted: "George Street in Aberdeen is currently closed at its junctions with John Street, Craigie Street and Maberly Street due to an earlier police incident.

"Please avoid the area at this time and use alternative routes. Thank you to everyone affected for your patience."
